Thank you for the mention. I'm glad this passage resonated... It's something I have to work on continuously!

I love that it's important for experienced runners like yourself and newcomers like me! Some life lesson in there I'm sure.

Think we talked about this a bit but I was definitely coached with a very old school "push through the discomfort/pain" mentality that has both served me well in life and has no doubt contributed to a myriad of hip and leg issues at this age. As my wife likes to remind me, "Don't push it," which I mostly listen to these days. Trying to be gentler on myself, in running and life, but it's not how I was wired.

Yeah - having never been coached in running I am trying to figure out the right balance. At the end of the day I want it to be an enjoyable endeavor, but the nature of running is that it's going to be a grind sometimes (often?) in service of the greater good.

Totally. Part of it I think is separating "grind" (putting in easy but necessary, and maybe boring, miles) vs. overtraining, which is where the injuries happen. I guess grind without grinding.

Adolescence is definitely one of the best mini series I've seen, I think it definitely goes beyond gimmick. That third episode!! If looking for another good mini series (completely unrelated) I recommend The Night Of.

This is good to hear from a film buff!! I loved The Night Of and feel like it's due for a rewatch - such an incredible mini series.

might have to re-watch too! ok i have 2 more recs in case you haven't seen either - Ripley on netflix - I feel it was very overlooked, was also created by Steven Zaillian (wrote/directed/created The Night of and Ripley) or another good prison one, Escape at Dannemora -Ben Stiller project before Severance

Adding both to the list 🫡

I'm all outta space for new wall clocks (I may actually have two too many) but that one's a beauty.

I loved this, Andrew! I didn’t consciously know it, but somewhere deep down I missed blogs and this unlocked something for me 🥲

As far as what I’m personally into right now, I can’t recommend The Power Broker enough. Everyone always talks about what a tome it is — which is fair, it’s 1200 pages! — but I don’t really hear people talk about how engaging Robert Caro’s writing is. He really lays out the argument for how destructive Robert Moses was and how much he fundamentally changed New York (for worse in many cases!), especially given that he never held any elected positions. My fiancee and I have been supplementing the actual book with the 99% Invisible series on it (which is really entertaining!) so if you don’t have time for the book, the podcast is great

I’ve started and stopped this book 4x but I might be better able to tackle it now, and the info in there is as timely as ever. Thanks for the rec!
